Just watching 'Funny Face' with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire (they're in the movie, not my living room, sillies!). I can't quite make up my mind about this film. I love Audrey as always; her cuteness, naivety and neat accent always brighten up my evening. But it bothers me that she always seemed to get cast opposite such older men. This film is really just gratituous shots of Audrey's face and Fred's music hall talent - nil chemistry and hardly any plot. Fred's character is a bit of an enigma, he's suave, charming and... elderly. He feels more like her (very much) older brother or a genial uncle: the furthest thing from a love interest.
All the song lyrics are rather poor, being rewritten completely since the original stage show, but Fred's weird, snappy delivery distracts a little. But the dancing is compensation
